Young Professionals Breakfast and Presentation
8:00 am – 9:15 am - Sangamon Room
Business Development and Consulting in Today’s Economy.
Rebecca Deopke, Mondo Learning Solutions
8:15 am – 9:15 am - Sangamon Room
Many independent consultants have a unique set of skills or a rare knowledge that is extremely valuable in their respective industries. Unfortunately, this talent alone usually doesn’t generate enough business in the long term to survive and thrive. One ongoing obstacle that many independent consultants face is how to consistently develop business in today’s market place. Sales strategies, business development initiatives, and marketing through social media are key ingredients for today’s successful independent consultant.
In this thought provoking session we will explore:
You Want Me to do What?! How to Give an On-Camera Interview
9:15 am – 11:15 am - Sangamon Room
At some point or another, many water and wastewater professionals find themselves needing to give an interview, speak at a public event, or talk with the media "on the record”. The mere thought of having your every word scrutinized is terrifying to most technical folks! This interactive workshop covers public speaking and public relations basics and gives each attendee an opportunity to go through a brief practice on-camera interview.
Young Professionals and Student Paper Presentations
11:15 am – 12:00 pm - Sangamon Room
Come see what your fellow young professionals and students have been up to. Three presentations on a range of water and wastewater topics will be given by Illinois Section AWWA and Illinois WEA students and young professionals.

After an exciting day of YP-sponsored conference activities, wind down with all the fun people you’ve met at the Young Professionals Social Hour. And show them your "mad” bag skills. This is a great chance to network with other conference attendees and find out what cool projects they’re working on. Email Sean O’Dell for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
By the way, you might be wondering what is a Young Professional?. A YP is anyone who has been in the water industry for less than 10 years, or members or prospective members age 35 or younger.
