Automatic Control Valves (ACV) – System Protection against Surge Potential

CEU TYPE: Technical
TRAINING CLASSIFICATION:
IEPA#: 8913

TOPIC:

Protection of convey ance and collection systems against surge damage is a complex issue requiring experience, and the correct choice of various technologies available.  Great importance is attached to making a surge analysis of your system with and without protection based on various combinations of technologies before selecting the optimal protection.  This session will provide a brief overview of technologies that are applied to control surge potential, with an emphasis on Automatic Control Valves.  We will discuss how ACV’s operate, typical applications, and how they can be utilized - and optimized – to help protect your system against water hammer.  Control Valves play an integral role in the system.  With proper care and application, control valves can aid in your system’s sustainability.

Topics discussed include: How ACV’s Operate, Water hammer and the roles of the ACV in protecting your system, , Maintaining and Troubleshooting in the Field, Typical “Fails” in the Field, Hands-on discussion of a valve rebuild, and “Tweaks of the Trade” – a discussion of what else can be done with your ACV.  Additional Technologies discussed will include Air Release Valves and Surge Tanks.
