The IL Chapter Water Buffalo/ ISAWWA motorcycle ride was a great success! While the weather started off a little wet, before the ride left Springfield we had fairly clear skies. We had 19 riders , 20 long distance supporters (they bought a shirt but did not ride) and 10 sponsors. The day netted just over $1,700 for WFP. We are looking for a date for next year, and a new location in IL, so if you have any places you think would make a great ride or cruise let me know. We will also need help finding sponsors and planning the ride/cruise.
The golf committee is working on the date for our WFP Golf outing next year, we look for this event to grow every year.
Please keep in mind that "NO Beer, NO Water" or "NO Wine" are very easy to put together, sometimes there is no cost or risk to the Section, so they are always a success please consider hosting one near you.
Our next big event is the Silent Auction at WATERCON, we will start making plans to reach out to vendors and attendees very soon, we need more items. Of course the 50/50 drawings will happen there as well.
Our next call will be on September 3rd at 2:00
On the National WFP front we have some exciting news, below is a copy of an email from Vicky Andersen,
I'm very excited to share with you that Water For People has selected a new CEO! You are one of the first to hear this important announcement, and we will be sharing it more widely in the next few weeks. So let's get down to the details.
In our board-led search over the last few months, we wanted to identify a new leader for Water For People that is passionate about our mission, has worked in the water/sanitation and development sectors, has wide international experience, outstanding execution skills, a positive and collaborative spirit, and most importantly, is excited about our organization, our mission, and in shaping our future.
We're pleased to say that we found all of these attributes in Eleanor Allen, who has been serving as the Global Director of Water for ARCADIS, and previous to that, spent several years in various positions at CH2M, including a long stint in Latin America. Eleanor has her MS in environmental engineering from UC Berkeley and received her BS in civil engineering and environmental studies from Tufts University. She is also a Peace Corps alum, where she served as a water and sanitation volunteer in the Dominican Republic. Eleanor's extensive career in the water and engineering fields and her excellent track record with peers and clients all over the world make her a wonderful fit to be our next CEO.
Water For People is at an exciting inflection point: we are on track for numerous districts to reach Everyone Forever (EF) by our target date and we have a line of sight to take EF national in several countries. Multiple premier organizations in and out of the water sector are coalescing around the principles of EF and taking action to integrate it into their own strategies. Eleanor was chosen as the leader who will lead us through the transition from casting the vision to executing on all fronts.
On behalf of the entire Water For People team, I want to personally thank all of the Committees. Without you we would not be primed to take the next steps to achieve Everyone Forever, operationally or programmatically. THANK YOU. I hope you will join me in welcoming Eleanor as we look to her to take us to the next level.
All the best,
Vicky B. Andersen
