Join your ACE16 friends as we cycle to raise awareness and funds to support Water For People. As a part of the AWWA annual conference, we will cycle on Sunday, June 19. Choose a morning or afternoon check in time suited to your schedule. Bring your own bicycle or register to rent one from Bobby’s Bike Hike. Both rides start at Bobby’s and offer an easy paced route covering about 15 miles.

AWWA members and guests of all cycling abilities are welcome to join the ride. A group leader will pace each group and point out landmarks.

The 9:30 am route will follow city streets to the historic Water Tower for a stop to watch the Pipe Tapping, Hydrant Hysteria and Meter Madness demonstrations. We will then follow city streets to the Lakefront Trail. The 1:30 pm route will not include the demonstrations at the Water Tower. This route will lead directly to the Lakefront Trail and run north to Montrose Beach before returning. Both routes will include the Lincoln Park Zoo and Conservatory with beautiful views of the skyline along the amazing Chicago lakefront. Registration will close if we reach a maximum of 45 riders in each of our two ride groups.

The morning ride will leave Bobby’s shortly after the 9:30 am check in time and return by 12:30 pm. The afternoon ride will leave shortly after 1:30 pm and return by 4:30 pm. Please be on time so you can be fitted to your bicycle and helmet, pick up your event souvenir and sign the necessary waiver. The entrance to 540 N. Lake Shore Drive is on the south side of Ohio Street just west of Lake Shore Drive. Enter through the covered driveway and look for the bike shop on the right. You must walk through the covered driveway, no cars or public parking are allowed. There is no organized transportation from the convention center or hotels to Bobby’s so plan on a short walk or cab ride. Bring your bicycle/helmet or rent onsite. The standard rental bicycle is a hybrid but road bikes are also available for an additional fee.
If you have questions before the ride, please contact Gary De Kock by email (gdekock@gmail.com). If you have questions when you arrive in Chicago, please contact a ride leader directly by phone at 773-878-0533.Thanks for supporting Water For People!
