Disaster Management for Water/Wastewater Utilities (MGT-343)

TOPIC: This DHS/FEMA sponsored course presents information in accordance with the National Preparedness Guidelines for preventing, protecting, mitigating, responding and recovering from natural, technological or man-made incidents affecting water and/or wastewater facilities. The course introduces the various hazards to which water and wastewater systems may be vulnerable and the potential effects hazards may induce. Participants are guided through portions of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Response Protocol Toolbox (RPTB) to identify steps in the response and recovery processes. Case studies on disasters and hypothetical water and wastewater incidents are examined. Participants also practice developing a response and recovery plan for a water or wastewater incident.

INSTRUCTOR:   Karen Tuttle, Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX)

Karen Tuttle has over 28 years’ experience working for a water/wastewater utility.  After retiring, Karen went to work for FEMA on the 9/11 World Trade Center and Pentagon disasters.  Karen has worked numerous other natural disasters for FEMA.

In addition to the  Disaster Management for Water/Wastewater Utilities,  Karen teaches the Response Protocol Toolbox for Water Contamination for the EPA; Response Protocol Toolbox for Wastewater Contamination for the EPA; Terrorism/WMD Response for Water/Wastewater Utilities and Public Works Response to CBRNE and Terrorism Attacks.  Karen is part of the team that taught the EPA Criminal Investigators and On Scene Coordinators for the EPA.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Registration closes April 6, 2016

-Upon successful completion on the course, certificates will be issued by Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) not ISAWWA

-Registration fee covers continental breakfast, lunch and snacks.  This is a working lunch

-FEMA now requires all participants to obtain a FEMA Student ID number.  It is free, takes only a few minutes and is required for all DHS/FEMA classes, including this one.  Sign up for your student ID number by going to:  https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/register


REGISTRATION & HOURS: Registration begins at 7:30am. The training will start at 8:00am and will conclude by 4:00pm. Earn up to 16 Professional Development Hours (PDH's) for engineers or Renewal Training Credit (RTC) hours for water operators. Continental breakfast & Lunch will be included.

COST: Fee includes continental breakfast & working lunch.
