TOPIC:    This seminar will define "active killers" which includes a brief history and evolution of these events as well as police responses. The stories of two survivors of the Virginia Tech. killings and the differences in the outcomes will be covered. The Department of Homeland Security, Run-Hide-Fight protocol will be discussed as well as a variation that has been suggested. A series of basic physical defense techniques and countermeasures will be demonstrated and practiced as a group to allow for simple and effective, but easy to perform techniques to be ready for use in a crisis. Lastly, a series of brief scenarios will offer an opportunity to employ critical thinking and leadership to defend against a simulated threat in real time.

Course instructors are current and retired law enforcement professionals.

 Registration begins at 11:30am. The training will start at 12:00pm and will conclude by 3:00pm.  Earn up to 3 Professional Development Hours (PDH's) for engineers or Renewal Training Credit (RTC) hours for water operators. Afternoon snack is included.
