Geospatial information is crucial for water & wastewater utilities. Location is a common element among all data that a utility maintains. Mains, manholes, meters, breaks, customers and projects are all location related. GIS technology is about more than just making a map. It’s the ability to analyze utility infrastructure, maintain asset information and support the decision making process whether it’s for basic maintenance and operations or more advanced capital improvement planning or hydraulic modeling. GIS brings this spatial information together and provides for its management and analysis. Today an enterprise approach to GIS helps support the overall mission of the utility while leveraging other information systems and IT infrastructure for a greater return on investment. This presentation and demonstration will discuss the enterprise GIS approach and how it supports utilities business needs while meeting the IT standards and requirements to run an efficient operation.
