Sanitary Sewer Master Planning - Village of Oak Lawn, Illinois, Case Study and Lessons Learned
The Village of Oak Lawn, Illinois, is located southwest of Chicago in Cook County. The Village is served by separate sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems. Like many communities in northeast Illinois, the Village has an aging sewer system that experiences surcharging during heavy rain events. The surcharging can contribute to overflowing manholes and basement backups. This presentation will discuss the Village's sanitary sewer master planning efforts, including flow metering, modeling, partnerhsip with the District, discoveries, and tasks moving forward, including infrastructure rehabiliation and policy change for basement protection.
