Disinfection of Combined Sewer Overflows with Sodium Hypochlorite and Peracetic Acid

Bench and pilot study results for chemical disinfection of combined sewer overflows at Fort Madison are presented along with full scale pilot design and economics. Two disinfection chemicals - sodium hypochlorite and peracetic acid - are discussed along with system design parameters including dose and contact times.

Jay Brady - Stanley Consultants

Jay Brady is a Principal Environmental Engineer with Stanley Consultants with wastewater system experience since 1989.  Jay’s project experience includes domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plant planning, evaluation, and design.  Process experience includes pumping, preliminary treatment, primary and secondary sedimentation, activated sludge systems including biological nutrient removal, chemical and UV disinfection, solids thickening and dewatering, and anaerobic, and aerobic digestion.   Other wastewater system experience includes pump stations, sewer system planning, combined sewer system overflow mitigation and long term plans, and on-site treatment systems.  He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), American Water Works Association, and the Water Environment Association including Central States, Illinois, and Iowa affiliates. . Jay has Bachelor and Master degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa.
