The USEPA ATP Process for Approval of Colilert-18 for Fecal Coliforms in Waste Water and What is a Number: Comparison of MPN and CFU

1. Review the requirements of the ATP (40CFR136.3) to evaluate a new method. Discuss the protocol for testing the new method against the Standard Method (m-FC, SM 9222D). Overview of the statistical analysis between the methods: recoveries, variation between methods, false positives and false negatives. Comments and conclusions of the study. 2. What is a Number: Review of the history of MPN (most probale number), simple understanding of how the MPN is calculated and how does it compared to CFU (colony forming units). What are the 95% confidence limits or intervals and significance of this. Compare 15 tube MPN to Quanti-Tray to membrane filtration.
