GPS-Based Maintenance and Inspection Management for Water Utilities

Water utilities have been inspecting the condition of their assets for years. Historically, this work has been labor intensive, requiring the manual recording of inspection information that most often requires duplication of effort when field notes are returned to the office. Performing routine maintenance requires detailed knowledge of when and how the water distribution system is geographically laid out. As workers begin to retire, knowledge of the system, including the condition of assets, tends to retire with them. New technologies such as GIS, GPS and wireless rugged mobile computing are being used to help bridge this gap. Trimble and Seiler Instrument will demonstrate these new technologies as they relate to water utilities maintenance and inspection management.
