SB 3080 will be heard in committee this afternoon at 1:30 pm in Springfield.   Although as water professionals we agree that getting the lead out of water is our concern, we want to be part of the discussion on how it may get done.

We need you to sign a witness slip to oppose the bill in its' current form.. If you filed a witness slip a week or so ago, we need you to do it again!   We will keep you updated on the negotiations as this bill changes it's content during the process.  The Water Utility Council and the Board are keeping in mind the best interest of the utilities and the consumers as well as realistic feasibility.

In it's current form,  the bill will require that within one year of its passage every community water system create a plan to replace all known lead service lines "both public and privately owned, within 10 years" this plan will include an engineering study, estimated costs, a financing plan, feasibility and affordability plan, plan to prioritize high risk areas, a proposed schedule with benchmarks and measures to encourage diversity in the workforce implementing the plan.

The Illinois Section AWWA Water Utility Council is urging everyone to go to the following link and file an OPPOSITION to this bill in its current form.   They do listen.  We want to be part of the solution and not have this mandated in its current form.  Click the link, fill in your name address, utility name, title, phone number. Put your utility name in the box for REPRESENTATION. Click the dot by OPPONENT.  Click "record of appearance only".  Click on "agree to the terms of the ILGA". Then submit.
