Outreach - Safe Water Scholarship Application

Scholarship deadline is January 31, 2017 for summer 2017 and the 2017-2018 school year.  The selection committee will distribute available funds to the applicants it deems to be most qualified.  Total funding for 2017-2018 is anticipated to be $5000.00

Illinois Section American Water Works Association (ISAWWA) is dedicated to the promotion of public health and welfare in the provision of drinking water in sufficient quality and quantity. ISAWWA is proactive in advancing the technology, science, management, conservation, and government policies relative to the stewardship of water. Recognizing that water is the basic element of life, ISAWWA values are:

The ISAWWA Outreach Committee’s mission is to educate the general public on the essential functions and importance of the water industry, the water cycle and water treatment, and career paths in the water industry. In fulfillment of the mission, the committee will award up to $5000.00 in scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year (including summer term 2017). Applicants must be enrolled or accepted into a water-related secondary, continuing-education, or enrichment program for the academic year.  Secondary education includes water system operator training programs, water-related technical school, community college, four-year college, Masters and Doctoral programs.

Scholarships awarded by the ISAWWA Outreach Committee require recipients to fulfill certain criteria while they hold the scholarship. The criteria for your scholarship require you to:

1. Meet the minimum entrance standards of the institution in which you are enrolled at the time the scholarship is awarded. Scholarship applicants must be residents of Illinois and/or students attending accredited schools or certification programs in Illinois.

2. Be enrolled or accepted into a water-related secondary, continuing-education, or enrichment program for the 2017-2018 academic year (includes summer 2017). Applicants’ field of study must be in a water-related field, such as civil or environmental engineering, water system operations/management, or environmental science.

3. Applicants may be interviewed by the selection committee for further consideration. The selection committee will contact the applicant to arrange a meeting time and location if an interview is necessary .

I accept the scholarship application criteria offered to me by the ISAWWA Outreach Committee for the 2017-2018 academic year. I also understand that I must meet the above requirements for the scholarship I am awarded before the funds will be dispersed. Further, I realize that if I fail to fulfill this requirement I forfeit my scholarship award.


If you, the applicant are under 18 years of age at the end of the calendar year of which you are applying please have your parent or guardian complete the information below.


• In general, describe your academic achievements and participation and leadership experience in school and/or community activities, community service, volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, or employment experience. These don't necessarily have to be things that relate to the water industry.

• In particular, describe any work experience, classwork, science fair/research projects, and extracurricular/volunteer projects that are related to water supply, treatment, or conservation.
ISAWWA is all about safe water. We are looking to award scholarships to students who want to make a difference in the water industry. Please state, in 500 words or less, how your educational and career goals align with ISAWWA's values:

o High School Diploma, and/or High School/College/Technical School Transcript (where applicable)
o Resume highlighting academic, work, and extracurricular experiences.
