Illinois Section Water For People
Dennis Ross, Chair
Yet another year is in the books, and a new one has
begun. By the time this article is in
print, 2014 will be well on its way. The Water for People Committee has already
begun planning for a fund raising record breaking year. Some of the events are
what you are all accustomed to seeing, and they are indeed great events.
We will be at Watercon in March with the Silent Auction,
look for the flags proudly displayed at booths in the exhibit hall where
vendors are generously supporting our efforts. These vendors have taken the
challenge to display an item at their booth, which will be auctioned off to the
highest bidder Wednesday morning. Be sure to take a look, place a bid and thank
them for their support. The ever popular
50/50 drawing will be held at each evening’s social events. We have a lot of
volunteers out in the crowd offering up raffle tickets. Don’t miss the excitement of this raffle - compared
to a nationwide lottery, the odds are in your favor.
You will see advertised
here in Splash, and many other places, a resurrected event for ISAWWA, the
Annual WFP Golf Outing. What a great way to support a wonderful cause while
having a great time! The outing is on May 8th at Heritage Bluffs Golf
Course in Channahon. Get your foursome together and join us. If you don’t have
a foursome, no worries. We will be happy
to match you up with some new friends.
Hole and contest sponsorships are available as well.
If you are interested in what this Committee is about, and
if you are going to be in Springfield at Watercon, I invite you to stop by the
WFP Committee meeting on Wednesday, March 19th at 2:00 in the
Capitol 3 Room on the 3rd floor of the Crowne Plaza. Our guest
speaker, Vicky Bhogal from Water for People, will give us a brief update on
what is happening within WFP, and we will be planning even more events. In our daily jobs it is easy to forget that
in a world not so far from our own there are entire communities that have a
daily struggle for the clean drinking water we all take for granted.
