Past - Chair's Report
I enjoyed my tenure as Chair of this Section and feel that I
learned a lot about what we do, who we are, and most importantly, what more we
can do…I want to thank everyone who put up with me and my constant mantra of
TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING! We all
need to continue working together to increase and improve the educational
opportunities for all of our members.
I want to take the time to thank the remaining past and
current Board members and committee chairs for all of the fine work that they
did last year. I know how much of a sacrifice this can be in the age of
"do more with less" and tighter budgets. Please know that your
work is greatly appreciated! To all of those who attended WATERCON, again
in the age of "do more with less" and tighter budgets, I want to
thank you for your participation and I hope that the conference was a positive
experience and you left with more knowledge than you had when you arrived. I think we can say that WATERCON 2013 was a
great success thanks, in large part, to all of the members and volunteers who
work so hard to make it happen.
As I have indicated before, the biggest issue now facing
both the Section, but more importantly, the water industry as a whole is the
aging of our membership. There are so
many people who will be retiring in the next 5-10 years and this truly could
become a crisis. All of us need to work
more to encourage people to get into our field, as it is an excellent career
path. This issue is now a long term goal
for the Section and we are partnering with entities to improve what we do in
attracting both members as well as people to join our industry. The Section is also working on updating our
Strategic Plan for the coming years and this will also be an ongoing project. If you are interested in participating,
please let us know!
Please remember that the Section needs you and your help as
a volunteer. The backbone of our
organization relies heavily on the support that comes from members who
generously give their time and ideas serving on committees and participating in
ISAWWA activities. Take a look at the
Committee list in the back of SPLASH or on the Section Website and see if there
is a committee that interests you; and don’t hesitate to contact either me or the
committee chair to volunteer. Remember that
the Section greatly appreciates your time.
Speaking of our new website… the changes and upgrades are
incredible and it truly has become an excellent tool to assist in all that you
do that is water related. The
functionality of the site is amazing and I still have only touched the tip of
the iceberg on all of the uses that are available. As we move forward into this ever increasing
technological era, the use of the site will become more and more important.
Thanks again for your support and for those that can make it
to Denver for ACE this year I hope to see you there!
