Some of you don't want to hear this, but it is fall. The
temperature may not seem like it but it is here. And I know that because it's
my favorite time of the year: Football. I'm not a fan of any one team
necessarily, although I would like the Bears to have a good season. The son of a good friend plays for the
Northern Illinois University Huskies. He's been told he will be a starter this
season. I look forward to another great Huskie season: BCS, here they come. And
a friend of my son's was just named head football coach at our local high
school. Football everywhere!!
There is not much news to report from the Association. Maybe that is a good thing. I'm on the
Diversity and Member Inclusion Committee and I would like to share some the
good work the DMIC is doing. They have launched a new website within the AWWA
There is a New Member
Benefit section that is highlighting special observances. Currently, we are celebrating Hispanic
Heritage Month Sept 15 - Oct 15. There is a section showing the Association's
commitment to diversity. An award has been created for members or organizations
that have exemplified diversity practices. I happen to be working on these very

Locally, at the Section level, it seems like it's all
planning for WATERCON. We either are at WATERCON, wrapping it up or planning
the next one. That is what makes it such a successful event – it’s well
planned. The Technical Program Committee is working on sifting through all the
papers that were submitted to create another fantastic program.
The Section is also working with the Association to plan the
party for the presidential installation next June in Boston. Everyone that goes
to ACE2014 should plan to attend. Not
only will it be a great party, but we get to celebrate John Donohue as the AWWA
President. We want to show the Association how Illinois can celebrate!!
Since it is fall, that means that the Section will be
working on the 2014 budget soon. Also, Section
elections will be coming in the next few months – before the next SPLASH. Then it will be the holidays and, alas, next
year and WATERCON2014 (yes, I’m rushing things a little, but you get the idea). The Section and the Association are
constantly at work to give members the value that they deserve.
