Jeff Fischer Receives the 2013 National John Lechner Award of Excellence
Terry Locke, MAC Chair
Our own Jeff Fischer was the proud recipient of the National
AWWA John Lechner Award of Excellence for 2013. The award was given to Jeff at
the Water Industry Luncheon at ACE 2013 in Denver, Colorado on June 11,
The John Lechner Award of Excellence is given to deserving
Section members at the local level, then can be submitted for national
consideration. Jeff was the first recipient of the award for ISAWWA and is now
the first ISAWWA member to be awarded the national award, as well. The Lechner award was initiated to recognize
"a section Manufacturers/Associates member who demonstrates exemplary service
to the drinking water community and to AWWA’s mission and goals.” Jeff
certainly fills that bill.
Jeff began his
career in sales of water related equipment in the 1970’s. Eventually, Jeff founded
his own Manufacturers Representative firm, R.J. Fischer and Associates in 1983
and remained a one-man firm until 1999 when he formed a partnership with Dave
Harris. Their new company is known as
Fischer-Harris & Associates.
Early in his
career, Jeff became involved in ISAWWA as
a member of the Board, eventually holding the offices of Section Chair and
Section Director. Jeff has been on a number of ISAWWA committees, as well as the
MAC committee on the national level. He is a Life Member and a recipient of the
Kenneth Miller Award for his work for Water For People. In 2006, Jeff was
awarded the George Warren Fuller Award for his tireless efforts on
behalf of ISAWWA and AWWA.
Of importance to this particular award, Jeff took over what
became known as the "Club Room Committee” in 1982 for ISAWWA which initiated
the Exhibit Hall concept. He organized the many, many "Fun Night” functions as
well as the ISAWWA 100 Year Extravaganza. The "Club Room Committee” eventually
gravitated into the MAC Committee as we know it today. It is the financial
engine for Illinois Section AWWA, which allows the Section to provide many benefits
to its members and the water industry in terms of education, networking and so
Jeff remains active in ISAWWA (he can be seen taking photos
at many events) and is also active in the Wisconsin Section, serving on their
Distribution Committee and Tapping Committee.
Jeff is married to Kristen and has 3 lovely daughters. He is
an avid cyclist and writer (he is working on his second novel!) and spent many
a night coaching sports, particularly with his daughters.
On behalf of the ISAWWA and the MAC Committee we want to
wish Jeff our sincerest congratulations!
