Summary: Permanganate has been used for over 100 years for many different drinking water applications.  General chemistry for both liquid and dry permanganate will be shown along with the standards that govern the use of permanganate.  Iron and manganese removal, DBP reduction, algal toxins destruction, and taste and odor applications will be discussed along with case studies on each of these applications.  General lab methods for determining the amount of permanganate needed for applications will be covered.  Finally, feed systems and proper safety and handling for permanganate products will be discussed.

Presenter:  Darin Skutt

Darin Skutt has worked for Carus Corporation for 20 years with the last 4 years as the Technical Service Manager.  As the Technical Service Manager, Darin conducts laboratory testing and product demonstrations for Carus Corporation municipal, industrial, and environmental customers and prospective new customers.  These product demonstrations include technical training, safety presentations, and installation of safe chemical handling and dosing systems.  He is a graduate from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, IL with a BS degree in Chemistry, ACS Certified.  Mr. Skutt is a member of AWWA, Water Environment Federation, and the American Chemical Society.
