SUMMARY:  Cleaning is an essential element of collection system operations and maintenance programs. Yet, the question arises, is there a way to reduce operations costs, slow asset degradation and lower risks to municipal personnel while preserving or even lowering threats of SSOs? Real-time monitoring can provide continuous feedback at each site/basin and utilities can now clean as the monitor indicates, eliminating exaggerated cleaning practices and reducing frequency/costs.
