Ductile Iron Pipe: Manufacture, Features and Design — Manufacturing using recycled materials; Differences and similarities of Ductile and Cast iron; Features of DI pipe (cement mortar lining, joints and gaskets, fittings, required markings, etc.);  Wall thickness design; Thickness concerns regarding direct tapping and external corrosion.

Corrosion Control — Define corrosion (generic and electro-chemical); Rate of corrosion: Ohm’s law; Examples of dry cell battery and how it occurs on pipe; Identifying corrosive environments; DIPRA/CIPRA research since 1928 on corrosion of iron pipe; Protection with polyethylene encasement: Construction considerations; long term effectiveness.

Ductile Iron Pipe Installation per AWWA C600 – Inspection, unloading and handling; Cement mortar lining inspection and repair; Trenching and shoring; Dewatering; Pipe laying conditions; Joint installations; Gaskets & linings; Cutting pipe and fittings; Backfilling; Fire hydrant installation; Flushing, pressure testing and disinfection; Clean up and as-builts.

Thrust Restraint — Define thrust as vector force and where it occurs; Perspective on magnitude of force as it varies with pressure and pipe size; Common methods for providing thrust restraint.

Horizontal Directional Drilling with Ductile Iron Pipe — Cover basics of procedure and equipment; Design and pre-construction requirements; Specific applications and details in the use of DI pipe; Polyethylene encasement requirements and installation recommendations for HDD; Case histories review; Limitations and risks.

Registration begins at 9:30am. The training will start at 10:00am and will conclude by 3:30pm. Earn up to 5 PDH’s or RTC hours.
