Illinois Section AWWA Outreach Committee Presents:
How to Write a Winning Scholarship Application WEBINAR

SUMMARY: If you are interested in winning a scholarship from the Illinois Section AWWA (ISAWWA), this webinar is for you! The presentation focuses on key components of a quality scholarship application, such as advice for writing your personal statement and how to put together a succinct yet informational resume. We’ll also cover common mistakes and oversights in scholarship applications to help you make sure your application is complete. Participants will receive sample personal statements and resumes to work from when preparing their application. The presentation will also outline several additional scholarships that are available at the national level through AWWA.

AUDIENCE: Applicants in the following categories who are pursuing education related to the water industry are eligible for ISAWWA scholarships. Some may also be eligible for national scholarships through AWWA.
  • Students studying at Illinois community colleges and universities (graduate and undergraduate)
  • Students at operator training programs and trade schools
  • Students whose permanent address is in Illinois, but who are studying at universities outside Illinois
  • Current water industry employees who are pursuing an advanced degree or certification (continuing education)


Kristin Rehg, P.E. City of Evanston
Kristin graduated from Northwestern University in 2003 with a BS degree in Environmental Engineering. Kristin has been in the water industry and an AWWA member since graduating college, and currently works for the City of Evanston Utilities Department. Her work includes capital project management, capital improvement planning, water/sewer rate analysis and rate setting, and safety/OSHA compliance. She is Chair of the ISAWWA Outreach Committee, and a member of the AWWA Rates and Charges Committee and Young Professionals Committee.

Hillary Holmes, MWH Americas
Hillary is a civil engineer at MWH. She has a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MA degree in Teaching from National-Louis University. Her engineering experience includes water distribution system modeling and planning, as well as water treatment plant design. Additionally she has experience teaching high school math and science. Hillary is a member of the ISAWWA Outreach Committee.
