Mr. Carruthers maintains a general business practice, representing clients in matters such as entity formation and structuring (partnerships, LLC and corporations), licensing matters, asset purchases, sales agreements and personal matters. In working with businesses and individuals, Mr. Carruthers handles estate planning matters, including wills, trusts, family limited partnerships, probate estates, contested estates, succession planning, probate avoidance, tax avoidance, and powers of attorney.

Mr. Carruthers handles a variety of real estate sales, acquisitions and exchange matters as well as litigation matters, including condemnation actions, mechanic's lien suits, action to quiet title, boundary line disputes and breach of contract matters. Mr. Carruthers has also handles numerous property tax appeals for both commercial and residential clients before local county Boards of Review and the Illinois Property Tax Appeals Board. Mr. Carruthers also maintains a license as an Illinois Certified Residential Appraiser, has performed hundreds of residential appraisals, and uses his knowledge of property valuation in his real estate law practice.

Mr. Carruthers has represented several units of local government in the southern and central Illinois regions and has acted as special counsel to a number of other municipalities, boards, and commissions. Mr. Carruthers also represents lenders and borrowers in transactions involving acquisition financing, lines of credit, term loans, letters of credit, real estate loans and other commercial financing arrangements, as well as creditor's rights and collection matters.

Mr. Carruthers also specializes in election law and has advised numerous candidates for public office and ballot initiative committees throughout Illinois. He has represented political campaigns in preparing nominating papers, petition objection hearings, campaign finance disclosure proceedings before the Illinois State Board of Elections, and post-election legal issues.

Mr. Carruthers is a native of Godfrey, Illinois and a 1998 graduate of Alton High School.
