Construction And Operation Of A Municipal Wastewater Reclamation and Reuse System

CEU TYPE: Technical

TOPIC:  At the time of design and construction, Cortland Reclamation and Reuse Facility was the largest zero discharge municipal wastewater treatment plant in the Midwest. With a design flow of 1.5MGD, Cortland is a pioneer in environmentally sensitive wastewater treatment methods. By taking advantage of the abundance of nearby open space and agricultural lands, Cortland is able to land apply treated effluent during the growing season. Since the plant came online in 2007, Cortland and its operators have learned many things regarding the plant’s design and are excited to share both the successes and challenges associated with a zero discharge plant.  We will examine the construction and operational challenges of the Town of Cortland’s wastewater reuse system with in-plant demonstrations of the wastewater reuse facility.
