This interactive seminar will educate participants on utility decision making techniques that optimize benefits while garnering effective return on costs that are associated with the operationalizing of an Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system for Water Utilities. The discussion includes:

·         Elements, Strategies, and Techniques of the AMI Business Case Analysis: introduce techniques and tools for an effective business case and how to communicate the results to utility stakeholders.  

·         Engaging and Delivering Value Added Services to Your Customers: introduce and inform the utility operator on ways and means to implement a Customer Engagement program, introduce tools that measure and manage the efficacy of those programs, the effect of those programs on consumer behavior and the cascading effect to the utility of an informed consumer.

·         Optimizing AMI in the Utility Operation: share insights and experiences on how Utility processes can be optimized, automated, or reengineered by leveraging and effectively utilizing the data that the AMI systems produce, while addressing the necessity for implementing organizational change management principles.

·         Managing by Metrics: inform the utility on how to achieve the return expected on an AMI system through a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Sharing of effective measures, how analytics are critical, and ways dashboards can be utilized to better manage utility operations.

·         Lessons Learned from the Trenches: share some common misconceptions, pitfalls, mistakes as well as successes from evaluating, planning, deploying and maintaining AMI solutions and processes.


Participants will come away with usable, applicable and teachable methods for evaluating, planning, deploying and maintaining AMI solutions and processes. This session is not about technology. It’s about leveraging technology to deliver value to your Utility and to your Customers.

Tommy McClung

As the Director for the billing and collections arm of the largest water / wastewater utility in the State of Texas, Tommy managed an annual revenue in excess of $1.4 billion and served more than 480,000 customers over a jurisdiction that was home to 2.1 million residents. His operation included more than 65,000 customer experience touch points monthly as well as the most innovative stormwater district in the USA.

Pete Mulvaney

Peter Mulvaney is a senior manager with West Monroe Partners in the Energy and Utility practice. Pete is focused on serving the water management industries from source water protection through consumption and reclamation. Pete’s core expertise lies in:

u Water policy and regulatory frameworks

u Source water protection

u Climate adaptation and resiliency planning

u Business process optimization

u Cross discipline integration and discipline bridging

He comes with over 20 years of providing strategic water resource management across the globe and at the building , city, regional and national scales. As a former utility manager, Peter has led solutions to complex problems within the constraints of government, sensitive ecosystems, and limited budgets by applying strong sustainability principles with pragmatic problem solving.

Greg Weeks

Greg has over twenty-seven years of experience in a variety of technical and leadership positions at American Water. Greg’s experience includes directing Systems Operations, Distribution Engineering, Field Customer Service, Transmission & Distribution, and Production. He was most recently Vice President of Operations at American Water. Greg recently joined West Monroe Partners to help grow the water team by leveraging his experience in the industry in the consulting arena. Some of Greg’s career highlights include:

u Lead Operations representative on the corporate wide Business Transformation project steering committees. This was a $300M project to improve and align processes and install new operating systems for ERP, EAM, and CIS

u Created and managed O&M ($124M) and capital ($100M) budgets including preparation and presentation of business plans, and reforecasts – ensuring initiatives are completed on time, within scope of work and on budget.

u Developed long term operations strategies, covering financial, operational, and process improvement goals

u Lead the implementation of process improvement s simultaneously driving operating efficiencies and excellent customer service resulting in over $1M in savings with customer satisfaction results consistently exceeding targets.


u BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri – Rolla

u MBA from Saint Louis University, and

u Licensed professional engineer in Missouri and Texas.
