District 3 - Water Taste Test

Join us for the second annual District 3 Water Taste Test. The winner of this contest earns the right to compete at the WATERCON taste test in Peoria on Monday, April 15th, where the winner will subsequently compete at ACE2023.

Eligibility requirements:

  • The utility or an employee of the utility must be a member of the Illinois Section AWWA
  • Water must be from a "water producer," not a reseller
  • Producer must have no state or federal water violations for the past calendar year

    Instructions:

  • Register to attend this event in Springfield, hosted by HDR
  • Provide a chilled water sample in a one-quart glass container no later than 2:00 p.m. on the day of the event
  • Sample should be in a cooler and labeled with the name of your utility and the name of the person responsible for submitting
  • You may send your sample with another utility entering the contest. Please be sure that your sample follows the guidelines above and is well marked with your utility name and contact person information.

Refreshments and an educational presentation will be provided by the event sponsor while the judging of samples occurs. Attendees will earn .5 IEPA credit. This will be followed by a presentation of scores and awards.

The deadline for registering to bring your sample is Monday, March 18th. Thank you to HDR for hosting us!

KEY INFORMATION!!

  • Capacity will be limited based on national security guidelines.
  •  If you are driving yourself or carpooling, there is parking at the plant. (If you noted that you were not sure of how you plan to arrive on the registration form, please let me ASAP. Security and parking at the plant will need to know.)
  • You will need to provide your full name to security and bring a government issued ID. This will be held at the gate until you leave.
  • Wear closed toe, comfortable shoes. We do not recommend heels or sandals.
  • Lunch will be provided. Note any dietary needs on the registration form.
  • Pictures cannot be taken on the tour. Photos are only allowed before or after.

 

Operators can receive 3.5 Drinking Water Technical CEUs and 3.5 PDHs for engineers.

The course will include a discussion on the types of stations that are commonly used in the industry and under what scenario different stations are commonly used. Design basics for lift stations will be presented and reviewed along with operational considerations. Example plans and specifications will be presented and reviewed. IEPA permitting requirements will be discussed. Inspection of new and existing stations will be reviewed, checklists presented, and rehabilitation methods discussed.

TOPIC: This eye-opening Competent Person training class goes well beyond the typical training program.  Not only will your personnel learn what OSHA requires, but what life-saving steps to perform should something go terribly wrong in a trench. This seminar will discuss what happens to the body when it gets compressed and Crushed Syndrome. Attendees will find out what they can expect from first responders and what they should do should if a cave in occurs. The seminar covers the law itself and then finishes up outside, to demonstrate trench shoring and excavating principles. Attendees will learn how to read tabulated data and how shoring is installed. Handouts consist of the law itself.
