11/18 Compliance and Safety in Water Tank Management (Webinar) 

SUMMARY: This presentation looks at water tank compliance and safety from an operator’s point of view. It focuses on the issues that show up in the real world—unsafe access, ladders and handrails that do not meet current standards, confined space concerns, poor site security, appurtenance problems, and deferred maintenance that slowly turns into bigger and more expensive repairs. Rather than treating compliance as just a paperwork issue, this session shows how these conditions affect worker safety, water quality, daily operations, and the utility’s ability to stay ahead of problems before they become emergencies. 

Attendees will review common tank-related safety and compliance issues along with the OSHA, AWWA, and 10 State Standards requirements that apply to ladders, handrails, manways, confined space entry, and site security. The session also compares a run-to-failure approach with a preventive maintenance strategy, showing how regular inspections, washouts, repairs, and planned rehabilitation can reduce risk, improve budgeting, extend asset life, and help operators avoid being forced into reactive decisions. 

The goal is to give operators practical insight into what to look for, where the biggest risks are, and how a structured tank management program can make their job easier, safer, and more predictable over the long term.
