Model Water Tower Competition

Overview

The Illinois Section AWWA along with other state sections offer a unique opportunity for middle school students to experience real life engineering. Students design and build their own Model Water Tower and compete to see whose fills and drains the fastest, is most stable, and most creative. ISAWWA members who work in the water industry serve as judges and look forward to inspiring the next generation to consider careers in water.

Students are required to creatively design and build a water tower based on size and height requirements. The models are judged based on 4 categories including: cost efficiency, hydraulic efficiency, structural efficiency, design ingenuity. Students will also be judged on a fifth category, interview presentation, during which students will be asked to discuss their design and building process.
