The Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Chapter at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a student-led organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for underserved communities worldwide through engineering solutions. The chapter collaborates on sustainable development projects, including drinking water systems. Members gain hands-on experience in engineering design, project management, and cultural exchange while making a tangible impact globally.
One of the current projects the UIUC Chapter is involved with is the Woodford County Illinois Drinking Water Project. This project aims to upgrade Woodford County’s aging water treatment plant and distribution system by upgrading equipment and replacing the existing cast iron piping with plastic piping. Through this effort, the rural community will be able to secure long-term functionality of their system. The Chapter is seeking professional guidance from experienced engineers who can assist with creating a preliminary engineering report, including a structural analysis, designs, alternatives analyses, and cost estimates.
