Who We Are

The Community Outreach Committee consists of ISAWWA members who believe that strong communities depend on strong relationships and clear communication. Committee members include utility professionals, educators, operators, engineers, and industry partners—all working together to promote awareness of the water industry, enhance public trust, and support meaningful community connections across Illinois.

WHAT WE DO

We develop and support outreach programs that educate the public and increase awareness of the water profession through hands-on learning and community engagement. Activities may include Water Trailer demonstrations, informational tables at local events, Drinking Water Week promotions, Water Ambassador Program support, volunteer cleanups, and community education resources to help utilities better connect with residents. The committee also supports relationship-building and education for elected officials through Day at the Capitol efforts in both Washington, DC and Springfield in conjunction with the Water Utility Council. Through these initiatives, we help share key messages that build public trust, encourage conservation, and increase understanding of water infrastructure needs and investment.

WHy we do it

Public trust and understanding are essential to the success of every water utility. By proactively educating residents and engaging decision-makers, the water industry can strengthen relationships, improve communication, and build support for infrastructure, sustainability, and future planning. Community outreach helps ensure that the vital work behind safe drinking water is recognized, understood, and supported.
