Title/Position: Maintenance Worker- Water Company/Utility: Northbrook Public Works What's your primary job? - Operation and maintenance of bbox, water main, fire hydrants, valves. In addition, I work on replacement of all parts, colliform sampling and disinfect biproduct sampling. How long have you worked in the total water industry? - I have worked in the water industry for 3 years. How did you get involved in the industry? - My supervisor got me interested in the job and industry! With ISAWWA, I have attended the YP Summit in 2023 as an Illinois Section delegate and participated in Hydrant Hysteria competitor at WATERCON. |
What sets you apart in the industry? - I am very open to learning new things. Whether it's exploring new subjects, acquiring new skills, or diving deeper into topics I'm already familiar with. I am eager to challenge myself and broaden my understanding. What do you enjoy the most about being involved in the industry? -I enjoy bringing clean water to residents, knowing that this simple act makes a meaningful difference in their daily lives. Ensuring that people have access to safe and reliable water is not just a task for me, but a way to contribute to the well-being and health of the community. What is the best piece of advice you've ever received or have given to another person? Future is the past with the lights ON. |

What is Your Water Source? - Ground Water
How Many Employees Work at Your Utility?-28 in Public Works and 13 in the Utility Divisions Have you had any significant capital improvements in the last 5 years that you'd like to share? - We have replaced 206 Lead Service lines in the Village using a $4 million principal forgiveness grant from the IEPA. In addition, we have repaired and painted our 500,000-gallon spheroid water tower. What is one of your recent accomplishments that you'd like to share? - Production and Treatment staff removed and installed a pump and the WWTP that can now pump up to 3.0 mgd. What's a fun fact about your system? - At the WWTP the 2 Primary and 4 Secondary Clarifiers are rectangular with chain and flight systems! Any other interesting information? - The Village is working on designing several other large capital projects in the coming years. A $45 million upgrade to the WWTP. $7 million to install new Iron Filters at a drinking water facility. $800,000 painting project on the 400,000-gallon spheroid water tower. $80,000 pump replacement at the booster station. $1 million upgrade to a lift station. |
