Introduction to the Repair of Breaks, Splits, Pinhole Leaks and Pit Corrosion Webinar IEPA#18146

WEBINAR TYPE: Technical, Water- 1 hour
IEPA#: 18146

Presenter: Mark Langenhan, Total Piping Solution, Inc.

SUMMARY:

Annually, there are over 320,000 water main breaks a year with a repair cost exceeding billions of dollars. Statistically, 20 - 25% of watermain leakage (up to 70,000 detected leaks) occur on old fittings and couplings, repair clamps, bells, hubs, flanges, and asbestos cement pipe couplings. These types of repairs can be completed in 30 minutes or less with an encapsulation sleeve. When making pipe repairs, use of the correct repair method, selection of the proper repair device, and a working knowledge of any common issues that may occur are essential towards making a safe cost effective and sanitary repair on a water main.

1. Repair Clamp Methodologies (temporary…a band aid repair) - 20 minutes

2. Cut in Repair Methodologies (coupling and MJ sleeves) – 20 minutes

3. Bell and spigot joint repair Methodologies (Harness and Encapsulation Assemblies) – 20 minutes

Most water mains may be repaired in one of three ways: Around the pipe repair clamps, Open Cut repair which includes replacement of a pipe section plus two fittings or a fast and easy repair of an existing joint or failing repair device through a permanent encapsulation.
