TOPIC: Our Advocacy and Policy presentation will be in two parts. The first part would examine the bill-making process. This presentation will include descriptions of the budgetary process, where legislative ideas originate, how a bill becomes a law, along with technical aspects of the lawmaking process. We will also provide an overview of state government policy and procedures outside of the legislative process This would include work with state agencies, regulations and the rulemaking process.
The second part of our presentation would focus on how utilities can become involved in advocating for regulatory change. We will walk people through points in the process where utilities can effectively speak up and speak out. This includes tools and tactics for developing relationships with lawmakers, becoming a resource to key stakeholders and ways to make efficient use of time while still having an impact.
