Description

Live on 7/31/2025 Addressing Aging Pressure Pipe Infrastructure Challenges Through Innovative Inspection and Rehabilitation Solutions IEPA#22058

CEU TYPE: Dual Credit Technical
IEPA#: 22058

TOPIC:  Illinois's water and sewer agencies face significant challenges in managing aging pipeline infrastructure, with increasing risks of failures that threaten sustainability, cost efficiency, and the well-being of local communities. As these systems deteriorate, traditional maintenance and repair methods often fall short in addressing the complex and long-term needs of the region. This training seminar will explore how embracing innovative pressure pipe inspection and rehabilitation solutions can transform aging infrastructure management.

Focusing on sustainability, cost efficiency, environmental, and social impacts, we will discuss advanced inspection technologies that utilize high-visibility dashboards to display actionable results. Techniques such as ultrasonic thickness (UT), inertial measurement units (IMU), magnetic field wave (MFW) and magnetic flux density (MFD) sondes, pressure sensors, and acoustic sensors will be highlighted for their ability to accurately identify pipeline issues, enabling data-driven decision-making.

Additionally, we will discuss flexible fabric reinforced pipe (FFRP) rehabilitation solutions.    The close fit FFRP solution will be compared to loose-fit FFRP liner systems and CIPP solutions.  The pipe preparation, inspection, and cleaning process that ensures a pipe is ready for liner installation will be described.  The installation procedures for each solution will be reviewed including the need for adequate ingress and egress pits. The pros and cons of each approach and the most appropriate application of each technology will be discussed.
