Live on 10/1/25 Creating a Source Water Protection Plan: A Lake Springfield Case Study IEPA#22064
Source Water Committee Webinar
CEU TYPE: Drinking Water Technical (DWT)WEBINAR TYPE: Technical
IEPA#: 22064
SUMMARY: Since the formation of Lake Springfield in 1935, the City of Springfield, Illinois (the City), has taken several precautions to preserve and enhance this reservoir. City Water, Light & Power (CWLP) owns and manages Lake Springfield and its surrounding 57 miles of shoreline. The protection of source water can be complicated without an outline on what is needed to undergo the task.
CWLP has an award winning source water protection plan that outlines the steps required including developing a source water protection vision, how to characterize your source water, creating source water protection goals and objectives, implementing your source water plan, evaluating and revising your source water protection plan, how to identify obstacles, and creating a source water protection plan timeline. This presentation will provide details of each step and use the Lake Springfield plan as an example, including the introduction of supplementary documents that can support your plan.
Presenter: Quentin Jordan, CWLP
