Small Systems vs. PFAS - How Small Water Systems Can Start to Face a Seemingly Unsolvable Problem
Small Systems Committee Sponsored Webinar IEPA #20006
CEU TYPE: DCT
WEBINAR TYPE:
SUMMARY: Per- and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) have gained a reputation for being an insurmountable issue. They are used in every product from firefighting foam to fast food packaging. PFAS do not break down easily and have been found in every corner of the globe. They are a health concern at unimaginably low levels. Federal regulations are proposed at the lowest detectable limits. The burden of cost to remove PFAS from water are predicted to be astronomical. What are small water and wastewater systems to do? This presentation will focus on understanding the constantly changing research and regulatory landscape, present first steps toward addressing this problem, and point small systems towards resources that can help them as they address PFAS-related challenges.
