Training Classification: Wastewater Description: This course is designed to train operators in the practical aspects of operating and maintaining wastewater treatment facilities, emphasizing safe practices and procedures. Topics include introduction to wastewater treatment, flow variations, preliminary treatment, screening process, primary treatment, theory of operation, design, physical and chemical requirements for biological treatment, wastewater treatment ponds, purpose and function of fixed-film processes, activated sludge, nutrient removal, disinfection, and more. Operators learn to analyze and solve problems when they occur and perform mathematical calculations commonly associated with operating a wastewater treatment facility. CONTENTS: Introduction to Wastewater Treatment Wastewater Characteristics Preliminary Treatment of Wastewater Primary Treatment of Wastewater Physical and Chemical Requirements for Biological Treatment Wastewater Treatment Ponds Purpose and Function of Fixed-Film Processes Activated Sludge Nutrient Removal Disinfection Required textbook to be purchased with the course: $93.00 Wastewater Treatment Fundamentals 1 - Liquid Treatment IEPA EXAM OPPORTUNITY IMPORTANT: Each registrant will need to separately apply and receive a Letter of Admission (LOA) from the IEPA to take the proctored exam. Registrants should submit their exam request forms 30 days prior to the exam to ensure that a LOA is processed. If registrants have not submitted their LOA on or before November 16th or received their LOA before December 16, they will NOT be allowed to take the exam. Instructor: Kevin Fecske, Village of Barrington CHECK-IN & HOURS: Check-in begins at 7:30 am. The training will start at 8:00am and will conclude by 2:30pm each day. Earn up to 18 technical hours for wastewater operators or 18 PDH’s for engineers. Please bring your own snacks and beverages. Lunch is included
