Title/Position: Marketing, Communications, and Operations Company/Utility: Fischer, Harris & Associates What's your primary job? - I do a bit of everything for Fischer, Harris & Associates, a manufacturer's representative firm for eight companies. I oversee our data and IT, communications, website, and marketing. Additionally, I travel regularly for trade shows, lunch 'n' learns with engineers and municipalities, and make regular visits to distributors. How long have you worked in the total water industry? - Since August 2024 How did you get involved in the industry? - I have known Jeff Fischer for a number of years and was ready to make a mid-career professional move. What sets you apart in the industry? - I come from an education, non-profit, and fundraising background - perhaps different sectors than many other water industry professionals. The skills I honed for 20 years in those fields are beneficial and transferable. Specifically, I focus on honesty, integrity, communication, and the value of building and maintaining authentic relationships. |
What do you enjoy the most about being involved in the industry? - The ability of professionals from different backgrounds to collaborate in pursuit of common goals; the deep friendships and bonds formed between professionals spanning many decades; the belief that we are making a genuine difference that benefits the health and quality of life of ourselves and those around us. What is the best piece of advice you've ever received or have given to another person? - Listen first, make eye contact, lead with empathy. What’s your idea of a perfect day? –Wake up with a morning walk or run outdoors. Spend time with my wife and daughters. Grill something delicious for dinner and sit out on the deck or on the patio with a fire. Fun Fact –I hiked the whole Appalachian Trail in 2007: 2,174 miles. |

How Many Employees Work at Your Utility?- 66 Have you had any significant capital improvements in the last 5 years that you'd like to share? - The City of Rockford has been highly active in its capital improvement program. From constructing two new radium treatment pants, drilling a new well, designing and bidding a five-million-gallon reservoir replacement project, implementing water main replacement programs, and addressing lead service lines, the City continues to plan proactively for the future while ensuring compliance with upcoming regulations. What is one of your recent accomplishments that you'd like to share? - This year, Rockford Water proudly celebrated 150 years of service to the community. To mark this milestone, we hosted a successful public event that welcomed residents of all ages. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including water education exhibits, live music, treatment plant tour, a hands-on main break repair demonstration, sprinklers, a water slide, and opportunities to explore heavy equipment. It was a fun day of learning, celebration, and community connection. What's a fun fact about your system? - For 150 years, Rockford Water has proudly provided safe, reliable water to homes, businesses, schools, and hospitals throughout Rockford. This enduring legacy is reflected in every aspect of daily life - every faucet, every fire hydrant, and every glass of water. We honor a century and a half of unwavering commitment, recognize the dedicated individuals who make this work possible, and the countless lives improved by their work. |
