PERMANGANATE FOR DRINKING WATER TREATMENT
CEU TYPE: Drinking Water Technical (DWT) IEPA#: 18291
TOPIC: Permanganate has been used for over 100 years for many different drinking water applications. General chemistry for both liquid and dry permanganate will be shown along with the standards that govern the use of permanganate. Iron and manganese removal, DBP reduction, algal toxins destruction, and taste and odor applications will be discussed along with case studies on each of these applications. General lab methods for determining the amount of permanganate needed for applications will be covered. Finally, feed systems and proper safety and handling for permanganate products will be discussed.
