The Water Sector Coordinating Council (WSCC) is urging all U.S. water and wastewater utilities to complete this anonymous survey before Nov. 21, 2025. The anonymous survey of utilities aims to collect information on implementation of cybersecurity practices, needs, and challenges. This survey is an update to a similar one performed in 2021 and is open to all water and wastewater utilities in the United States. “With threats from increasingly sophisticated and destructive attackers, cybersecurity has become a top priority for water and wastewater systems,” the WSCC states in a Nov. 3 memo to water and wastewater utilities. “And recent incidents have added urgency to discussions within the sector and with Congress and federal agencies on how best to help utilities improve their cybersecurity. “To help guide discussions with policymakers – and to inform the sector’s own cybersecurity programs – the national water and wastewater organizations are collaborating to develop a picture of current cybersecurity practices in the sector. With this information, the associations can better articulate the challenges and needs of the sector.” WSCC asks that the survey is completed by a staff member with cybersecurity responsibilities. Your utility may receive requests to complete this survey from multiple sources. To avoid duplicate responses by multiple staff, please consult internally with colleagues before completing the survey. If you have questions about this survey, please contact the national association or organization that provided it to you. Please complete the survey no later than Nov. 21. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes. Feel free to contact Kevin Morley with AWWA if you have any questions.
