Dear ISAWWA Members,

On behalf of the Illinois Section AWWA Board of Trustees, I am writing to share an important leadership update regarding our Executive Director.

After six years of dedicated service to ISAWWA, Annie Storey has announced her resignation. Her final day as Executive Director will be Monday, February 16, 2026.

Over the past six years, ISAWWA has experienced tremendous growth and progress under their leadership. Together with our volunteers, committees, and staff, we have elevated the organization and expanded our impact across Illinois. Highlights of this tenure include:

  • Launching new educational programs to support our members and the total water profession
  • Establishing the Water Ambassador Program to strengthen outreach and engagement
  • Successfully transitioning WATERCON to a new venue and schedule
  • New design of the ISAWWA website, including accessibility and mobile-friendly features
  • Advancing the Section’s strategic plan through improved alignment and intentional planning
  • Building operational efficiencies and a strong, collaborative staff team culture

While these accomplishments are significant and visible, the Board also recognizes and deeply values the quieter work that strengthened ISAWWA behind the scenes—helping position our organization for long-term success and continued leadership among AWWA Sections nationwide.

We are grateful for Annie’s commitment to ISAWWA’s mission and for the trust, dedication, and professionalism she has brought to this role. Annie has shared her intention to support a smooth and transparent transition.   Heather Schmidt will serve as ISAWWA’s Interim Executive Director until a replacement is hired.

The Board has begun the process of identifying the next Executive Director. ISAWWA remains strong and well-positioned, and we are committed to ensuring continuity in our programs, events, and service to our membership.

Please join us in thanking Annie for her leadership and significant contributions to ISAWWA. We wish her the very best in her next chapter.

Sincerely,

Todd LaFountain
Chair, Illinois Section AWWA
On behalf of the ISAWWA Board of Trustees
