| Women in Water Committee |
Who We AreThe Women in Water Committee encourages and supports women’s careers and personal development within the total water industry. We readily recognize and honor women’s significant achievements in our field, and work to increase gender equality through our committee operations. WHAT WE DOOur committee holds monthly discussion groups meant to uplift and encourage member’s careers, as well as offer a space for members to tackle issues effecting women in the industry, like lowering the salary inequality. Other committee operations include organizing networking receptions, monitoring demographics on women in the industry, and adding updates to the Illinois Section’s website. WHy we do itWe want to increase gender equality in the industry by supporting women’s careers and professional development. Based on the World Bank and Energy & Utilities Skills Partnership report (2019), women in technical and managerial positions are underrepresented with only 30 percent in the U.S. water utility workforce. A committee like ours is necessary if we want to see any improvement for the future of women in total water. What's in it for You?Joining the Women in Water Committee means taking on our commitment – increasing gender equality and supporting the careers of women in the total water industry. Committee members not only help uplift other women currently in the industry but create a welcoming environment for women of the future.
