Meet the members of the Sewer Collection Committee:

 

Scott Bernholdt

Scott is employed by the Village of Elk Grove as the Deputy Director of Public Works. He has worked for the Village of Elk Grove in a variety of positions since 1984 when he started as a Summer College worker.  He has served on the Water Distribution Committee of the Illinois Section as the Vice-Chair for several years and is currently the Chair of the Sewer Collection Committee. Scott is recognized for his current rivalry with the Chair (Dennis Bowe) of the Water Distribution Committee for their long running feud of who can get the most accomplished in the shortest committee meeting. Claus Dunkelberg
Mr. Dunkelberg brings over 40 years of nationwide expertise in infrastructure systems in planning, design and construction.  Infrastructure projects include water systems, wastewater systems, storm water systems, roadways, solid waste facilities, airport infrastructure, GIS projects and sustainable design projects.  Infrastructure project/program management experience includes clients in major metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Miami, Atlanta, Baltimore and Detroit.  His experience includes village engineering positions for various communities in Illinois and Wisconsin responsible for maintaining and expanding the communities' infrastructure systems.

Casey Botterman

He received his Bachelor’s degree in Emergency management at Western Illinois University in 2011 with a minor in Fire Administration. He worked with the City of Rolling Meadows Underground utility department during summer and winter breaks while in school. He received a Lead Technician position with JC Restoration after he graduated from college and spent 8 months working for them. He was hired by Mount Prospect Public Works in February of 2012 as a maintenance worker in the water and sewer division, then was promoted to sewer foreman in May of 2014. He has been working with the village for the past 4 ½ years.

Hsing Chu

Mr. Chu is experienced in water/wastewater treatment and distribution systems, civil/site design, and water system asset management. His experience includes pumping and piping design in potable water and wastewater applications. Specifically, he has worked on pumping and pipeline projects at Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago facilities, at city of Chicago Department of Water Management facilities, and at other locations within and outside of Illinois.

Barry Howell

Twenty-seven years’ experience in the public works field, including: KEG Technologies, Inc. - Burgstadt, Saxony, Germany – Six years as Vice President and General Manager of this German based sewer rehabilitation tools manufacturing company.  Elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO).  Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) - Hilliard, Ohio – Eight years with ADS, the largest manufacturer of polyethylene pipe in the world.  Served as a Sales Representative, selling high density polyethylene pipe, fittings, structures, and storm water detention/retention systems to the civil engineering, municipal, general construction, and highway construction markets.  Awards included two (2) national sales awards for outstanding sales performance, Entergy Corporation - Jackson, MS – Eight years with Entergy Corporation, one of the largest electric utilities in the US. Served as Commercial Marketing Coordinator, National Accounts Manager, and Senior Project Manager at Entergy.  Awards included an Entergy Pinnacle award and a Southeastern Electric Exchange award for marketing excellence.  Publications: Principal author of NASSCO’s “Jetter Code of Practice”, a technical manual for training sewer jetter operators and sewer cleaning crew supervisors, published in 2006, Underground Construction Magazine, “Proper Nozzle Selection in Sewer Cleaning”, August 2010 Vol. 65, No. 9, Underground Construction Magazine, “Pressures in Sewer Cleaning”, April 2010 Vol. 65, No. 3.  Associations: NASSCO – former Board of Directors member WEF – member, Collection Systems Committee MO WEA – member, Collection Systems Committee-IL Section AWWA – member, Collection Systems Committee  MWWC – chairman, Southeast Section 2015-2016  Speaking Engagements: Presented sewer rehabilitation seminars to groups including:  Pumper and Cleaner International Expo,  Idaho Wastewater Operators Association,  Alabama (Tuscaloosa) Chapter, ASCE  North Carolina Rural Water Association, Colorado Wastewater Association, Arkansas Rural Water Association, Mississippi Rural Water Association, Missouri Rural Water Association, Missouri Water Wastewater Conference, Illinois Rural Water Association,  Illinois Section American Water Works Association.  Education: Bachelor of Business Administration, University of Mississippi, 1981.

 

John Hubsky

John Hubsky has worked in the water industry for over a decade.  He started with a local municipal water department, where he worked his way up to a lead worker position and obtained his Illinois Class ‘A’ Public Water Supply Operator license.  Currently, John works for the Village of Glen Ellyn, as a Crew Leader for the Utility Division, which is responsible for the water, sanitary and stormwater systems.  He will be taking over the Superintendent position for the Utility Division in January of 2017.  He has extensive experience with GIS and asset management systems, as well as obtaining a GIS certificate from the College of DuPage.  Currently, John is working towards his Master degree in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University, with an anticipated graduation date in December of 2017.  John’s undergraduate degree is from the University of Michigan in Resource Ecology and Management.  After college, John spent two years working for the USDA Forest Service in their Forest Inventory and Analysis Division working on collecting sample data from research plots.

Owen Keenan

Owen has been with the ME Simpson Company for the past six years.   Owen is a registered Professional Engineer and a certified Class A Water Supply Operator. He has over 39 years of experience involved with the design, construction, operation and maintenance of water system infrastructure.  Owen graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction. He started with the City of Chicago - Department of Water in 1977 as a Resident Engineer on various projects involving the City's 4200 mile water distribution system that supplies potable water to over 2.9 million city consumers and 2.5 million suburban consumers.   Owen is a Life Member of AWWA, and currently serves as a Trustee on the ISAWWA Board. He was the Past Chair of the Water Distribution Committee for the Illinois Section. He has presented at WATERCON, at AWWA ACE , and at many other water association meetings. He has also been published on several water distribution topics.

Joe Voss

Joe spent 17 years working in various consulting firms as Sr. project engineer for the Chicago Department of Water Management, under 3 long term contracts, designed water main replacement, performed quality control and mentored new engineers.  Before that, he spent 14 years as a consultant working as Project Manager for water main, water main replacement, sewers, sewer rehabilitation, sanitary facility plans, stream bank restoration, parking lots, highways, site work and commuter projects. Prior to that he spent 6 years at the Village of Arlington Heights as Civil Engineer-Responsible for plan and permit reviews, legal descriptions, planning, design, field personnel support, agreements, and administration of bonding and 6 years at the Illinois Department of Transportation as Civil Engineer in construction.  He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Bradley University.

Mike Young

Mike is a Senior Vice President for RJN Group, Inc. out of Wheaton, IL and is the engineering manager for their northern Midwest region.  He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has been a consultant in wastewater collection and treatment for the past 21 years.
